Our Mission

To promote the understanding and respect for the history of the Jewish community in Hamilton Ontario, with special attention to Beth Jacob Synagogue and its members, past and present. We achieve our goals  through research, stewardship of collections, and public outreach. We strive to preserve oral histories and traditions for our next generations to explore.

Our Vision

To maintain a space that preserves and celebrates the diverse cultural heritage of the Jewish people in Hamilton and to build a more knowledgeable, creative, and engaged community.

Our History

The  museum was established during  the 125th anniversary of Beth Jacob Synagogue in 2013.  The former small chapel became the multi-purpose museum space with the goal of hosting rotating exhibits and social events.

The first exhibit was part of the Anniversary celebration telling the stories of the Beth Jacob congregation with a weekend long multimedia celebration and as part of the festivities.

Within two years a specialty began to emerge, our dedicated board members, museum staff, and volunteers began to collect and record the many stories passed on by Hamilton community members. From generation to generation these oral histories and traditions provide insight to the past, present, and future of our community.
